Tonight I’m sharing my holiday film favorites! This post is a bit late as I just finished watching one of these movies five minutes ago but it was worth staying up because it made it on my list. That movie (keep reading to learn which one it was!) and five other films are listed below in no particular order. And action…
The Holiday
This one’s a little girly and predictable but The Holiday is still one of my favorites for its engaging performances, its film/literary industry backdrop and its delightful score which I often play via my bluetooth speaker as a soundtrack to my day because it’s just that brilliant.
Friday After Next
A heroic tale of two cousins who save a fair maiden from a tyrannical ruler while on a quest to restore Christmas spirit throughout their town after a series of unfortunate felonious events, this movie is rated R for language, sexual content and drug use. And I love it.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
I’m going to admit to you that I’ve never actually seen The Grinch in its entirety BUT (there’s a but!) I’ve listened to it, caught bits and pieces of it and walked past it as it played on my own television more times than I count. It simply makes me happy to hear it in the background as I go about various holiday-related tasks.
How to Be Single
So this isn’t a true Christmas film but it is set partially during the holidays and it’s a hilarious, refreshing anti-romantic-comedy romantic comedy, so that’s good enough for me. J and I watched it one night a couple weeks ago and then watched it again the very next day. Also, I’d like to nominate Mean Girls and Obsessed to the great non-holiday-but-set-during-the-holidays flicks hall of fame. Any others?
The Family Man
It’s kinda cheesy and up until about two minutes ago when I googled its title I would have sworn it was filmed in the early 90s (2000 if you’re wondering), but The Family Man is still a great Christmas movie. J suggested we watch it last Christmas and, much like J himself, this movie somehow stole my heart.
Love Actually
So TBH, I just watched Love Actually for the VERY FIRST TIME tonight. I know – where have I been?! This movie has been out for 13 years and I’m just now jumping on the bandwagon! I’m happy to report that I did love it and I’ll probably be watching it a couple more times this season and on many more cold Christmasy nights in the years to come.
Those are my favorites! What are yours? Leave me a comment below and let me know! Xoxo.
P.S. This post is going up on December 16th because as I was writing up today’s (Dec 16th) post I just discovered I saved this post but didn’t publish it! I adjusted the date so it will still appear as the post for December 15th. Today’s post will be up in a while… If you’re reading this, I’m sorry!
