A couple months ago, Ella and I searched for some ukulele mount solutions because she wanted a place (i.e. away from her brother and sister) to hang her most-prized musical instrument. I threw a couple of options into my mental list of future purchases but, when it came time to build her command center (check it out here!!), a DIY idea suddenly popped into my mind. With items we already had on hand, I created a ukulele mount that was super easy to assemble, fits right in with the rest of Ella’s command center and displays her ukulele proudly and securely. In addition to putting it on a wall, this mount would also work on the side of a dresser, inside a closet door or wherever you think you might want to store a ukulele when it’s not in use. Ready to make your own?! Here’s everything you need to know…
WHAT YOU NEED
One 3M Command Strip Hook (like this or this)
Two New Hair Elastics (we use these)
And, ya know, a ukulele of your own…
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
Following the instructions for the Command Strip hook, mount it to your wall and wait the required amount of time before putting any weight on it. After that, just loop the elastics through one another so they’re linked together, place them onto the tuning pegs of your ukulele as shown above and hang it all on the hook. And that’s it!
Ella and I are both really happy with how this mount turned out as I hope you are too if you decide to DIY it yourself! Her ukulele is now not only super handy for whenever she’s ready to play but it adds another element of Ella-ness to her space which is the best part in my opinion. If the elastics start to appear worn or stretched out, we’ll simply swap them out for new ones (which we always have around in a house full of hair) but so far they’re holding up just fine and Ella’s ukulele is so light I don’t foresee the elastics ever breaking under the weight of it. Leave me a comment if you do give this a try and as always, thanks for reading!! xx

Love this! I was googling because I want to hang Waterman ukes at work. I work in a juvenile justice facility, and we can’t have things that could be weapons, such as, metal, wood, screws…etc. I bought Command hooks but couldn’t figure out what to do. Thank you!

Thank you Ann!! I’m so, so glad it was useful to you! Your comment honestly gave me chills and truly inspired me to keep this little blog going just when I was feeling pretty doubtful about it. Thank you… 🙂

I used a command strip to hang a very light soprano uke and it just fell, smashed to the ground and got damaged. It hit one of my guitars that was on a stand below it too! These hooks son’t stick well enough and hold nothing! Don’t risk it!

Hi Kay! I’m so sorry to hear that! We’ve had my daughter’s up for over two years now without any trouble but I know these things can be hit or miss sometimes – especially depending on wall texture, humidity, etc. Her ukulele is a beginner (inexpensive) piece so I felt super safe hanging it. When it comes to really valuable instruments, I’d definitely recommend investing in something that secures into the wall. Again, I’m sorry the strip/hook method didn’t work for you!
