Although it’s taken me decades to decide, I think I’m finally ready to declare that spring is my favorite season. Opening the windows to let the fresh air in, hearing the birds chirp excitedly again and watching the world bloom back to life is a pretty magical experience in my opinion and, even if you’re less than impressed with the sights and sounds, there’s still the very practical matter of absorbing some much-needed vitamin D after the darker winter months. I could go on (and I did before deleting a few sentences here) but as we have an entire post below this intro, let’s get into the four slightly more specific things I’m looking forward to this spring…
Spending More Time Outside
After an unusually wintery winter for our area, I’m more than ready for warmer weather to come our way and I’ve already been soaking up as much sun as the clouds have allowed lately. Spending time in nature has always felt like an essential thing to me but the past couple years seem to have really highlighted the need to balance tech and material things with more human things like, ya know, not the internet which I definitely do love too. I’m also looking to make simple activities – like walks with the kids and working/playing outside – my primary way of staying active which leads me to…
Getting Back into the Garden
Last year, I finally made my first “real” attempt at growing a vegetable garden and it was one of the most rewarding life experiences ever. From watching sprouts emerge from the soil to cooking with things we pulled from the ground, I found so much happiness in the simple process of growing veggies, fruit, herbs and flowers in our own backyard. This year, I hope to increase our harvests with what I’ve learned along the away so I can share more of what we grow with our family, friends and neighbors too. And, if I muster the courage, I might ask Hendrix and Sadie’s school if they’d like any donations to their garden or have the kids sell some plants starts along with or in lieu of lemonade.
Wearing Dresses (Without a Jacket!)
Over the past few months, I’ve started a small collection of floral dresses (from Amazon!) which I can’t wait to wear without a coat or jacket covering them once the cold weather clears away. Dresses play a sizable role in my wardrobe as they’re an all-in-one easily-thrown-on outfit and they make me feel feminine, flowy and a little romantic which I admittedly love. If you’re in the market for a few floral frocks, you can find my current faves here, here and here.
Springtime Home Projects
In addition to cleaning and decluttering, I’m looking forward to organizing, decorating and just generally zhuzhing up our house as there are a number of things I’d like to do in preparation for what I hope will be a wonderful summer. A few of the tasks I want to complete are ripping up our carpet to restore the hardwood floors, figuring out a drought-friendly-ish option for our front lawn and making my bedroom into something of a mom sanctuary that better suits the woman I currently am. The 2018 me made some choices I no longer agree with, you see. 😂
In truth, I don’t know what this season has in store but my hope is that heading into it with a “no matter what” mindset and staying connected to what I want to accomplish as well as how I want to feel will help me bridge the gap between just another spring and a real new beginning to the rest of my life. A little deep, I know, but hopefully you’re with me on that and you’re prepping for a happy season ahead too…
