Last week was BUSY. It felt like the longest end to an already lengthy stretch from Thanksgiving vacation to winter break and I felt like that mom meme with the praise hands when it was finally over except I’m just thankful for the kids’ vacation – and, ok yea, also bedtime. I got ZERO blog posts up and I think I was on social media like twice the entire week but now that I can finally breathe a little I thought I’d post a quick life update to let you know what we’ve been up to. All in all, things have been good lately. I had a really rough time right before Thanksgiving (which I talked about in this Insta post) but since then things have settled, I’ve started to move forward and I’m happy with life in its current state. There’s still a lot to sort out but I feel freer, like a portion of my energy is no longer tied up in something that isn’t right for me right now.
Aside from the normal #momlife stuff, last week brought with it Ella’s first final exams of her high school career (she did SO well!!), Hendrix and Sadie’s holiday performances (Sadie’s first time!!), multiple outings including trips to see all the holiday lights, trips (yes, plural) to shop for our tree, and so many trips to the mall and Target and other stores for Christmas shopping of course AND the start of my room painting adventure which was long overdue. I’m *trying* to get my room done before Christmas but so far I’ve only gotten the ceiling, the door, the closet doors and the trim on one wall finished.
The kids have stayed busy with homework/worksheets, reading, chores and other activities like painting, planting pumpkin seeds during the wrong season and playing outside as it’s been pretty sunny and warm all week long. I’d like to plan a couple more holiday-themed things for them to do/see in the next couple days so we can squeeze every last magical moment out of this season before it ends. If you have any suggestions for family-friendly LA/San Fernando Valley events this weekend, let me know!!
In addition to everything else that’s gone on in December, we welcomed our first Elf on the Shelf this month which has been extremely fun and I think we’re all going to miss Peppermint when he heads back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. So far, he’s TPed the entire living room including our tree, brought little gifts and crafts for the kids, drawn on our bananas, made a “snow” angel on the dining table, had a date night with Barbie, written a warning note based on naughty behavior and popped up in various places around the house. I’ll keep my Insta Stories updated to document Peppermint’s last days with us for the year as well as whatever else we get up to this weekend and next week.
Once the holiday rush is over, I’ll try to do more of these life update posts here and there to keep everyone updated and have a way to document life that I can look back on later that’s on the blog rather than simply on social media. I also want to hear from you on how everything’s going so this isn’t just a one-sided thing so don’t forget to leave a comment and keep me updated too!! Also, I should have a post with our christmasy Universal trip photos up tomorrow or Sunday so make sure to look for that coming soon! xx
