With spring just a couple weeks away, I feel the need to talk about all things fresh and clean and today that includes faces. Living with acne at any stage of life sucks but when you reach adulthood and find that your embarrassing teen blemishes have grown up right alongside you with no signs of saying goodbye, it really sucks. If your peers appear pimple-free and you’re still dealing with breakouts on a regular basis, know that you’re not alone. I, too, suffer from the post-high school horror that is adult acne. Sure, it may aid in making me look a little more youthful but when it comes to being taken seriously as an adult woman and a mother or the ability to walk out the door feeling completely confident, acne makes me feel more self-conscious now than it ever did during my teen years.
Over the past decade+, I have tried SO many acne treatment products ranging from drugstore face washes to high-end kits sold at Sephora and even Proactiv, all to rid myself of blackheads, pimples and those occasional super-painful-under-the-skin situations which look bad and feel worse. On top of my skin’s own issues, a lot of products made my acne significantly worse before it got any better – if it got any better at all. The amount of time and money I invested in things that didn’t end up working would have been a total waste if it weren’t for the fact that I finally found my holy grail – the Neutrogena Complete Acne Therapy System.
Included in this kit are an acne wash, an acne treatment lotion and an oil-free moisturizer with SPF 15 which works well without drying out my skin or, more importantly, effecting my daily makeup application (#priorities). Nothing has been as effective or efficient for me and, even when my acne is at its worst, it only takes a couple weeks of using this kit for my skin to go from complete mess to completely clear. Each kit is meant to be a 30-day supply but I find it lasts over a month for me (maybe 45ish days). As for the claim of “overnight results” on the box, I can attest that while I’ve yet to have a blemish vanish whilst I slumber, there is definitely visible improvement in terms of size and inflammation in the morning.
While it may not work for everyone as we’re all different, this Neutrogena system has been my go-to for years now and it’s truly worth a try if you’ve not found yours yet. And although it would have been amazing for my teenage self to get her hands on this product long ago, adult me is just happy and thankful that it’s here now. Aside from this kit, my other adult acne tips include avoiding dairy as often as humanly possible, drinking enough water (which we’re all totally doing already anyway, right?!) and establishing + sticking to a solid nighttime skincare routine. Even when I fail to do these things consistently however – which happens more often than I care to admit – it’s nice to know Neutrogena has my back. Or my face? You know what I mean!
The Neutrogena Complete Acne Therapy kit is available on Neutrogena’s own site, Amazon, Walmart and at certain drugstores. If you try this product or have already tried it, be sure to comment below and let me know all about your experience! xx
