I am SO late in getting this post up! I had it scheduled for last Friday but I was dealing with a drain issue at home, Saturday we went to Newport Beach to escape the 106 degree weather here in the valley and I spent most of Sunday cleaning. On Monday, I felt super unproductive and Tuesday was my birthday so I allowed myself to be unproductive but I got back on the grind on Wednesday which brings us to today and, finally, my Hits + Misses post for June 2018.
June was a month of ups (Ella graduated from middle school and we’ve had a pretty active summer!) as well as downs – including home issues and health issues. Ugh! I’m hoping things While it wasn’t my favorite month this year so far, I did manage to find a few things I loved and a few I could live without last month. Here they are…
HITS
Neutrogena Complete Acne Therapy System
I have a full post in the works on this one but I can tell you right now that it works so well for me. I’ve tried multiple acne kits over the years and Neutrogena’s is the only one that consistently gives me clear skin. It was kinda hard to find when I went to repurchase it (as it seems both Target and CVS no longer carry it) but luckily I found it at Walgreens, started using it immediately and my skin has been very happy ever since. Please Note: I only photographed one of the three products in this kit – see the complete set via the link above!
NYC Nail Enamel in Skyline Blue
On a whim, I decided to take a break from my usual faves to give this light blue polish a try. I kept the polish remover handy because I was sure I’d be scrubbing it off seconds after applying it but I was really happy with how it turned out. The color is fun but not too bright and although it’s a light color it only took two coats to become completely opaque. Is it going to be my new go-to for manicures? No. That’s reserved exclusively for pinks or nearly white neutrals but this blue was definitely a different, cool for the summer experience that I’ll probably repeat soon!
Formula X Nail Color in Knockout
More so than the color (which I enjoyed also!), this polish was a total hit due to its consistency. I’ve had this same bottle for over two years and it’s still goes on super smoothly. The color reminds me of the only color I’d ever wear when I was around ten or eleven years old with its pretty pink and (at certain angles) purple/blue iridescent sheen. Nostalgic hue + good application = a win-win situation. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like this brand is around anymore so I’m happy I held onto what I had!
I drank Starbucks Sumatra and Caramel coffees pretty much all June long and thoroughly enjoyed them both. We purchased an apocalypse-prep-sized box of K-Cups from Costco a while ago but as we finally ran out I’ve relied on packing Starbucks coffee into our reusable pods lately. It’s a little less efficient but equally – if not slightly more due to the increased strength – delicious compared to the K-Cups and a lot less expensive than going to an actual Starbucks for my favorite latte. Sadly, we went through our entire stock of Starbucks ground coffee (we also had Italian Roast and Decaf Pike Place) so I had none to photograph for this post!
Ella’s Popsocket to be exact! Since my mom recently bought her a brand new one, I stole her old one to test it out again. Back Story: When we bought the first one for her for Christmas last year, I tried it and HATED the way it felt in my hand. Fast forward to this past month however and I’m loving every second of using it and can’t believe I didn’t give it a fair chance back then. I’d really like to get the Rose Gold Marble Popsocket from Coconut Lane along with the matching case but Ella’s hand-me-down is working for me for now!
MISSES
Dove Derma Soothing Moisture Conditioner
As I talked about in a previous Hits + Misses post, I really loved using Dove’s Derma Soothing Moisture Shampoo. Its companion conditioner however, was a miss for me. I tried using it as I do any other conditioner – applying to just a ponytail-and-lower level and avoiding anything up above – but then I remembered that it too has an anti-dandruff ingredient so I slapped it on my scalp as well. Not only did it not really boost the shampoo in any way (I actually saw an increase in oil/flakiness but that could be due to the extreme heat here lately), it also didn’t appear to effect the overall moisture level of my hair. I’ll still repurchase the shampoo but it’s back to Aussie conditioners for me.
IN THE MIDDLES
This was neither the best nor the worst body wash I’ve tried from Caress or any other brand. It smells pleasant enough – sort of a sexy-ish floral scent – and it got the job done but it wasn’t impressively silky as its label would suggest and I probably won’t be repurchasing it anytime soon.
That’s it for June’s Hits + Misses post!! Check out the others from May or April if you haven’t already and let me know one of the biggest hit or miss products you’ve tried recently! xx

I love those nail polish colors! I try to take advantage of brighter colors during the summer since I feel like I can get away with them more and I have so many to use up! lol. I enjoy Starbucks coffee and have been using my reusable pod as well- way cheaper and like you said you can control the strength! I was always interested in popsockets- do they make a difference in how you hold your phone? XX Jen

Hi Jen!! Sorry so late! Yes to the popsockets! They make it way easier to hold onto your phone and keep from dropping it. I hardly ever use a case on mine so having that extra grip comes in handy. The Loopy Case looks cool too. Have you seen it?
