Hi guys!! I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I’ve written a post but I’m happy to get back into everything. I’ve replaced my email list sign-up form in my sidebar after a bit of a revamp because I’ve decided to dump monthly newsletters in favor of popping into your inboxes with little updates and goodies less regularly but more often. Please subscribe if you have a moment and haven’t already! I’m also reviving my monthly favorites post series with a bit of revision in the form of Monthly Hits + Misses posts. I’m hoping they’ll be a good way to bring you guys my favorites, hate-its and some mini reviews all at once. Today’s post is the very first one so let me know what you think! Here it is…
HITS
Raw Sugar Body Wash in Lemon Sugar
You guys. This stuff has the most amazing sweet lemony smell ever and it’s been the perfect way to wake up during my morning showers. The scent is what sold me but the fact that it contains essential oils and vitamin C is awesome as well. Also, it’s made in Southern California (yay!) and their cold press process sounds really neat. I’m tempted to try one of their other scents as this one was empty as of Saturday, but I’m so in love with the lemon scent I may just get that one again!
Zak Designs 30oz Stainless Steel Tumbler
I wanted a pink Yeti tumbler for the longest time but didn’t want to spend $30 to obtain it so I was extremely (read: overly) excited when I found this one during a routine Target run for only $9.99!! It’s still pink, keeps things hot and cold and makes me want to drink more water so I’m happy and it’s earned its spot on this month’s “hit” list.
Gillette Fusion ProGlide Razors
These are actually a long-term love of mine, but I had to give them a mention since I recently got a large refill pack from Costco (which will probably last me a year) and they’re just my favorite razor ever. I’ve tried a girly razor and a different/cheaper man razor over past few months and neither comes close to the shave I get from Gillette’s razors.
Shark ION Rocket Cord-Free Stick Vacuum
We just bought this vacuum two weekends ago but I’m already in love. I had my eye on the Dyson V7 Motorhead but the Shark was on sale at Target (making it $100 cheaper) so I went for it after a bit of research and review hunting. The cordless design has made it so easy to move from room to room and even out to the car to vacuum all the messes we’ve made with its great suction. Once I’ve given it a proper couple months of use, I’ll probably do a full review post so stay tuned for that. Side Note: I’ve named this new vacuum Mr. Kaplan after the Blacklist character. If you watch the show, you’ll totally get it!
St. Ives Even and Bright Pink Lemon and Mandarin Orange Scrub
This is another longtime favorite but since I used it so frequently in April, I thought I’d throw it in here too. I apply a small amount all over my face before using a wet wash cloth to (gently) rub/scrub in a circular motion (usually twice a week). My skin is instantly brighter and my makeup application is always better for it. I’m not sure if the whole washcloth scrubbing process is frowned upon as it’s a little harsh for the skin but it really does a great job of combating dull skin and dry spots for me so I’m going to keep calm and scrub on.
MISSES
L’Oreal Infallible Total Cover Foundation
I tried to make this foundation work for multiple months – atop different moisturizers, with and without primers, beneath different setting powders – to no avail. Its initial application is wonderful and the coverage is great BUT as the day goes on my oily skin combined with its oddly (to me) thick mousse-like consistency makes for a completely cakey face. I still wear it in a pinch (i.e. if I won’t be wearing it long or I don’t want to waste another foundation during a day that we’re not doing much) and I’ll probably keep doing that until it finally runs out and I wave it a well-deserved goodbye. Side Note: I LOVE LOVE LOVE L’Oreal’s Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation and their Foundation Blender too so one miss isn’t going to change my fondness for their products!
I actually finished these up toward the beginning of the month, but I wanted to include them because they just did not work for me and I’m still a little sad about it. I like to wash in cold water unless the load really requires warm or hot but for some reason I had the toughest time getting them to dissolve – even in warm water and with following all the instructions. Am I the only one? Do you use and love Tide Pods? Where did I go wrong?!
I was hoping this would be a decent hairspray for a reasonable price but it just wasn’t happening. The hold (which was a 3 out of 5) was super stiff and not run-your-fingers-through-friendly at all and the kids and I were left with flaky white residue that required multiple washes to eliminate from our hair. If you know of any touchable-type hairsprays (other than Elnett which I already love), please let me know!
IN THE MIDDLES
SheaMoisture African Black Soap Acne Care Kit
I’m still not sure which of the four products in this kit my skin didn’t care for – or if it was just my skin at the time – but it seemed to be a little too harsh for me. My face started to clear up but then broke out in small irritated-looking bumps which subsided quickly enough but were super annoying for a few days. I’m granting this kit an “in the middle” status until I experiment with it further as I’m still not sure if it or my skin was to blame.
Caldrea Linen + Room Spray in Sea Salt Neroli
This spray’s scent is really nice but just not for me. I honestly think I’d enjoy it upon walking into anyone else’s home on the planet other than my own because I just prefer scents that are either super fresh or floral and sweet. I’m also not sure if it lingers as long as the Mrs. Meyer’s Room Freshener sprays which is a little disappointing considering the difference in cost. It’s currently in the bathroom because it kinda reminds me of a freshly-showered man smell which I’m totally into. 😉
That’s it for my Hits + Misses for April! I’ll try to get next month’s post up a little closer to the end of the month (I’ve already started my list along with notes!) rather than a week after. Please let me know how you liked this post and if I should photograph every product next time or if you’re ok with photos of just the hits like as I did in this time around. As always, thanks for reading guys!! xx
