It’s official!! The kids are back in school and we’re back to being a little more structured and organized around here which I personally love. I’m not a complete neat freak but I do enjoy when everything has a home because it makes it SO much easier for kids – and adults too (insert eye roll emoji here) – to find exactly what they need and put it away once they’re done with it. This most definitely includes homework supplies because I have spent a crazy amount of my precious energy searching for pencils, erasers and the correct color of crayon (because the 96-pack has ONE red and about seventeen almost reds) which is just not cool. So this year, to save my sanity, I put together the homework caddies above for Hendrix and Sadie so everything they need is readily available and I’m not going on a wild goose chase every time someone needs the glue stick that someone else shoved behind a couch cushion. Because #momlife.
To start, I purchased two white storage caddies from our local Dollar Tree store – two because Hendrix and Sadie would fight otherwise and white because I have a clean + bright home decor obsession that drives Ella absolutely crazy. Side Note: I also LOVE the look of these clear caddies from Amazon but the ones we have are pretty durable and only a dollar so I’m happy with them. Next, I assembled all the necessary homework supplies including crayons, pencils, erasers, scissors, rulers, glue sticks, the kids’ sight words from school and, of course, snacks which give them a little something to look forward to as they head over to the homework table (aka our dining table). I was worried about how I was going to divide everything as I didn’t find any small cups/bins I liked at Dollar Tree BUT I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the kid-sized Ikea tumblers we already owned fit perfectly into the longer section of the caddy. I didn’t mind stealing them from the cupboard for a good cause and we can always get more later as they’re only $1.99 for a six pack – yay! Once everything was organized into the sections/cups, the caddies were ready to go.
It’s been a few days of using the homework caddies now and not only am I glad to be officially off supply duty but Hendrix and Sadie have been happily doing their homework – and even a little extra workbook work for fun – all week long. They’ve been pretty diligent about putting things back in their places instead of stashing them in random spots and, even when they haven’t, it only takes a second for them to toss in any missing items. I’ll keep you updated if anything changes but so far it’s been so good which kinda begs the question: Why didn’t I do this so much sooner?! Anyway, homework caddies for the win until we have a huge house with a whole dedicated homework station. Hey, a mom can dream…
Are your kids back in school yet? How do you keep their homework supplies organized + easily accessible?

I love some good organization. And kids really respond so well to it as yours have! So thoughtful. Perhaps I will get on board with a caddy for my son when he starts his homework journey!

Same here! I completely agree – especially easy visual storage for them. And thank you!! Let me know if you do! I hope all is well… <3 <3 <3
