It’s officially summer guys!! The kids are out of school, the sun is mostly shining (thanks, June Gloom) and our annual quest to pack as much fun as possible into our off-season has commenced! This year, I decided to follow in Jordan Page’s Fun, Cheap or Free footsteps and create a printed summer bucket list – aka a big seasonal to-do list – so the kids can anticipate every event/trip/activity we have planned. Being able to cross things off as we go has already injected a little extra excitement into everything we’ve done and creating the list – from planning to printing – was pretty fun too! Here’s how it all came together…
For our list, which is proudly displayed on the kids’ chalkboard wall, I wanted to include big exciting stuff but also smaller things that would create simple memorable moments. And, since it has such a prominent position, I wanted it to look nice too! I turned to Canva (reluctantly at first because I enjoy designing things from scratch) and selected one of their pre-made poster templates. The design I chose wasn’t listed as “free” but it turned out that only a specific graphic within the design required payment. All I needed to do was delete it and the rest of the design – lines, shapes, etc – was free to use, modify, save and print. I moved a couple things around, changed the colors slightly, added a transparent background for the text and then proceeded to create a header in a fun font. I then added all of our bucket list items and our list design was done. Super easy – yay for Canva!!
After getting the kids’ approval on the design and the activities, we had our list printed at Costco as a 20×30 poster for $9.99 (plus tax, of course) and taped it to the chalkboard wall for all to see. I’m really happy with the way it turned out and the kids are super excited too. The only thing we need to do now is keep crossing things off our big summer bucket list! Once again, a HUGE shout out to Jordan Page for her original idea. If you’d like to use her ready-to-print design with write-in fields, head over to Jordan’s post here OR give Canva a try if you’d like to customize your own!
Are you making a summer bucket list this year? If so, let me know what you’re looking forward to crossing off most!
